Busy is the best medication

I am someone with depression and anxiety. I was diagnosed when I was 17 and again when I was 28 or so, can’t really remember. My diagnosis is that I don’t have a situational depression, which is the most common, when something happens in your life and you are affected by it, but once you get over it it goes away. My depression is clinical and my brain lacks of chemicals so I need to take medication in order to feel well. Just like a diabetic needs insulin I need antidepressants to be healthy.

But sometimes that is not enough, just like a diabetic needs his insulin he also needs to not be overweight, have a special diet and other things in order to be healthy. For me is the same, I have learned that the medication is not enough, it helps so much, but I also need other things, a diet, and a busy mind.

So I am always looking for things to do, specially with a toddler, because if we stay home everyday it can be easy to get bored and fall into bad habits.

That being said I want to share an idea my dear friend Tati gave me, to buy a Zoo pass and use the Zoo as a park. In Guatemala we don’t have many safe parks to take our kids to play. Luckily I do have one behind my house but it is nice to change and go to new places. So on Friday we went and bought the pass, it costs Q200.00 for a year and since Adrian is still 1 year old he doesn’t pay to enter. In a few months I will have to pay for his but for now we will use it as much as we can.

On the other hand I haven’t started cooking from my books, but I have been taking photos every time I can. I carry my 50 mm and take it everywhere. It’s been fun capturing fun moments I wouldn’t if I didn’t have my camera. It’s so nice to have a goal, I don’t do it EVERYDAY but I try to do it as often as possible.
